Editor’s Note: This tip may also work with Apple Watch Series 1 with Watch OS3 installed.

Starting with WatchOS3, Apple has added a new way for someone to get assistance while waring his/her Apple Watch.  It’s called the Emergency SOS feature.

Here’s how to enable it:

  • First, make sure the feature is enabled on the watch from the iPhone.
  • Go to Apple Watch App > General > Emergency SOS.
  • Make sure the above is turned ON.
  • On the same screen, tap the Add Contact option.
  • This will bring up your contacts.
  • Select the person(s) that you wish to contact during an emergency.

To activate the Emergency SOS feature:

  • Press and hold the side bar button for six seconds.
  • A menu will pop-up with the “Emergency SOS” option.
  • Tap it.
  • It will then send a text message to your contacts letting them know that you’ve contacted 9-1-1.
  • That’s it.
