The streaming wars are heating up.  CBS (owners of Paramount+) have announced a change in their pricing plans for a month or a year (but with a catch).

Starting June 7th, 2021, the service will offer a $4.99 plan that includes commercials, or $9.99 a month premium without commercials, and with live access to your local CBS station, if the station is owned and operated by CBS.  Some stations are owned by independent companies, so this offer may vary.  Also, keep in mind that the commercial free price is for the content on Paramount+, not for any CBS local affiliate.  One more thing, The Paramount+ terms of service say there are also commercials on “a few shows,” presumably due to contract issues, but does not elaborate on which shows they are.

For those of us who like to pay for a yearly plan, persons can pay $50 and $100 for the basic and premium plans, respectively.  However, the $50.00 a year plan does not include the NFL on CBS or any NFL games. The CBSN national news channel is also included in the basic tier.

If you want the commercial option with the live channel included, which is currently $6 a month, then you can stay signed up and continue to pay that rate.  As long as you don’t cancel, you’ll continue to keep access to your local CBS affiliate over the streaming service.
