Developer’s Tip: How to obtain and install iOS 16 on a development device

Editor’s Note: This tip is for new registered Apple Developers only. Apple does offer a public beta of iOS 16. For more information, go to Apple.com.

While most developers know this little trick, some don’t, and I find this way to be the easiest to get up and running with iOS 16 quickly.

In order to do this, you must be a member of Apple’s Development section. You can get more information about this at https://developer.apple.com/

Just follow these steps:

On an iOS device, go to https://developer.apple.com and sign in with your name and password.
Tap Downloads.
Make sure you’re in the Beta section of the web site.
Scroll down until you see iOS 16 Beta, and tap on the Install Profile button.
A Beta end user license agreement message will pop-up. READ IT CAREFULLY!
Agree or Disagree. If you disagree with it, stop reading here.
Another window will pop-up double checking if you wish to download the profile.
After that, the profile downloads to the device.
The device must reboot to make sure its available for the next steps.
After the device has rebooted, go to Settings > General > Update Software.
The iOS 16 profile is now installed and you should be able to install it from here.
The actual install may take some time. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE INSTALLATION OR YOU’LL BRICK THE DEVICE.
