For the first time in its 33 year history, the company which holds an event called the Mobile World Congress has cancelled this year’s event over concerns about the Coronavirus.

In early February, big-name attendees started to pull out of the event to prevent unnecessary risks to their staff due to the ongoing 2019 Coronavirus outbreak. Sony, Nokia, LG, Intel, Amazon, were among some of the first to cancel.

In a statement to Bloomberg News from John Hoffman, chief executive officer of conference organizer GSMA:

The global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible.
