To coincide with the global launch of Hulu on Disney+ on October 8, 2025, where it will replace the Star hub in many countries worldwide, Disney+ is undergoing a significant overhaul.

This overhaul aims to create a fully integrated and unified app experience of Disney+ and Hulu in the United States next year. Users will begin to notice further integrations of Hulu across the Disney+ app as part of an ongoing and iterative product update plan on the homepage and beyond. This includes a series of design and navigation enhancements rolling out over the coming weeks and months, providing a more dynamic and intuitive experience.

In the past week, Disney+ has undergone some design changes, with the front page shifting from horizontal rectangles to vertical rectangles.

Disney has shared an early glimpse of some of the changes coming to Disney+, although it’s uncertain if all these features will be implemented globally or if some may remain available only in the United States. Currently, the Streams function is only available in the US, and ESPN On Disney+ hasn’t fully launched in some countries like the UK.

Simplified Navigation and User Experience Design

Enhancing the user experience by making it more intuitive, Disney+ has introduced a new navigation bar at the top of the homepage. Subscribers will first encounter the “For You” tab when they click into Disney+. This tab serves as the new homebase for recommended viewing, powered by an updated algorithm that learns user preferences over time. Additionally, there are tabs for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN, depending on the user’s subscription, allowing for easier exploration of each catalog individually.

The main vertical navigation includes a Live hub that directs users straight to the latest live news, sports, and events, as well as their 24/7 Streams.

Disney is also introducing new badging tags such as “Season Finale,” “New Series,” and “New Movie” to highlight unique and timely content.

Personalized Recommendations

Disney+ is further enhancing its personalized recommendations by incorporating features that cater to individual user preferences.

Disney is committed to enhancing user experience by making content easily accessible and personalized.

Behind the scenes, Disney has been diligently working on evolving and advancing its personalized video algorithm. This algorithm will continuously learn and improve, powering Disney’s recommendation and personalization engine. This engine will surface content to users across all touchpoints on the platform, particularly in the newly introduced “For You” tab.

To ensure users watch content in their own profile, Disney will make Profiles more prominent across the user interface. Users will then find titles that are personally recommended based on their unique viewing habits.

Disney is also introducing a more dynamic and visually appealing homepage. This modern design places Disney’s characters and stories at the forefront, making it easier for users to discover their favorite characters and stories. The new design includes a video display in the Hero carousel and a more dynamic brand row showcasing the latest titles from each brand. Additionally, Disney has updated its content sets to feature cinematic poster-style artwork.

While many of these design updates will be available on living room screens, Disney is also making some differences for the mobile experience. Widgets are launching on iOS, providing another convenient way for users to access Disney’s programming with a single click. Furthermore, Disney+ will introduce mobile-first and mobile-exclusive experiences in the coming year, expanding the app’s reach and engaging with new audiences.

In anticipation of the launch of a unified app experience of Hulu and Disney+ in 2026, Disney plans to make additional updates. Users may need to update their devices to access the new design features when they are rolled out.
