For those with older Macs, Apple has made its Lion and Mountain Lion operating systems a free download starting immediately. Previously, the company charged around $19.95 to download the older operating systems.
These OSs runs on Macs that came with the Mac Models below. Note: These OSs cannot run on newer Macs beyond 2020.
The below is a list of Macs that can run the older OSs:
• iMac (Mid 2007-2020)
• MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
• MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
• MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
• Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
• Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
• Xserve (Early 2009)
