Even though Apple recommends that you restart your Mac by going to   > Restart, sometimes you want to do it directly from the Terminal.

Here’s how:

  1. While at the Terminal prompt, type: sudo shutdown -r now
  2. That’s it. 

The computer will restart as normal.
