Apple ready with App Store changes to dodge more EU fines

Apple is poised to implement additional changes to its App Store to appease European Union antitrust regulators. This comes after the EU issued an ultimatum following a €500 million ($580 million) fine imposed on Apple.

According to people familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Apple’s proposal, due by June 26, aims to facilitate third-party developers in redirecting customers away from the Apple ecosystem to facilitate software purchases
.

This pledge follows weeks of intense discussions between Apple and EU regulators. By implementing these changes, Apple hopes to potentially avoid future penalties for allegedly violating the bloc’s Digital Markets Act, which resulted in the April fine. Apple has expressed its intention to appeal the penalty through the bloc’s courts in Luxembourg.

In response to the penalty, Apple fiercely criticized the EU regulators, accusing them of discriminating against the company and forcing it to offer its technology for free.
