Yes, I know, there are other articles with the above topic.  But most of those articles feel “canned” (like the writer really didn’t go through the steps).  Well, I can honestly say that, I HAVE, and I don’t want to do it again.  I did it because I had a problem with the server version, so I had to do a reinstall of the client version (and no, there isn’t any other way to do it).

I will cover two ways to reinstall Lion:

1.  How to reinstall via the USB stick.
2.  How to reinstall via the Recovery Partition.

Both are very good ways to get a computer back up and running quickly.  While I ended up doing #1, I did try #2 as well.

I’ll assume you have a basic knowledge of computers, where the USB ports are, and how to use a keyboard (no, I’m not kidding).

USB STICK:
————–

Get the USB stick out of the package and stick it into an USB port (anyone will do).

1.  While turning the computer ON, hold down the [OPTION] key.
2.  Keep holding the option key, even after the familiar “dong”.
3.  At the boot menu, select the USB Stick icon.
4.  Follow the on-screen instructions.

RECOVERY PARTITION:
—————————–

When Apple (or a user) installs Lion, it dedicates 2-3 megabytes to a ‘recovery partition’ that allows a user to recover Lion without using a USB Stick.  To get into the partition, do steps 1 to 3 above, but select the Recovery Partition icon.

That’s it.  No, really.
