After reading this article, it got me to thinking: What if an iOS user gave a device to Apple without wiping their user data AND Apple forgot to do the same thing, and then resold the device to someone else?  What ever personal information was on that device is now in a new person’s hands.

You should make sure that all of your personal data (such as calendars, contacts, financial, email, etc.) is off the device even before trying to either re-sell it, or trading it in for something else.

Doing so is simple.  But I would suggest that one plugs in the device to either their computer or a wall outlet, as delete times can vary depending on the amount of information that’s on the device.

1.  Go to SETTINGS > GENERAL.
2.  Scroll down until you see the RESET option.  Go in to the area.
3.  Select “Erase All Content and Settings.”

When you do that, you’ll see the Apple logo and a progress indicator appear.  Wait until the device has finished.  Then, double check to see if all of your data has been deleted by going into your contacts, calendars, etc.
